Course Overview:
In this hands-on course, you'll work with clay to create beautiful, personalized pieces that blend form and function. You'll explore various handbuilding techniques, texture-making, and glazing as you create a collection of unique pottery.
•    Week 1: Introduction to the Studio & Starter Projects
Get to know the studio and the basics of clay. You’ll start by making a personalized cell phone holder using clay slabs and textures, followed by a textured bowl made using a slump mold. Perfect for getting comfortable with the material!
•    Week 2: Personalized Mugs
Create a one-of-a-kind mug or two for your favorite coffee, tea, or soup. Using clay slabs, you’ll add your own textures, personalize with names or sayings, and craft a handle to make this a truly unique piece.
•    Week 3: Folded Bowls & Small Pitchers
Learn how to fold clay into beautiful, functional bowls, with texture. Plus craft a small pitcher or creamer with a handle. These projects will help you refine your skills and bring a playful, sculptural edge to your ceramics.
•    Week 4: Glazing & Finishing Touches
Glaze your completed pieces with a variety of underglazes and studio overglazes. This final session will allow you to bring your creations to life with vibrant colors and finishes.
Additional Details:
•    All materials and firings are included in the course fee. Students can make multiples of projects as time permits. Your completed pieces will be available for pick-up about two weeks after the final class. We’ll notify you when they’re ready!
•    Please come prepared with a hand towel for your use, an apron if you have one, and whatever beverage you want. Wear comfortable, older clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty, and non-slip shoes for safety.
•    While basic tools will be available in the studio, we recommend bringing a few essential tools (see the list below). However, if you’re new to ceramics, we suggest waiting until the first class to decide what tools work best for you. We will provide suggestions and the best places to purchase.
Tools to Consider Bringing:
•    Silicone smoothing rib (MudTools yellow or green)
•    Clay cutting knife or craft knife
•    Wood modeling tools
•    Smoothing sponge (e.g., small grout sponge)
•    Craft paintbrush(s)
•    Clean-up tools and rubber mark-making tools
